Description:
The violin works of the contemporary German composer Henze, who began composing at the age of 12, were recognized at the age of 21 with his "Symphony No. 1," and he was listed as one of the "most talented young composers" in Germany at the time. He continued to change his style, and in his later years, he devoted himself to composing operas, which won him much acclaim until his death in 2012. The sonatas on this album span a long period of time, from the early years of Henze's career to the end of the 20th century, with the Violin Sonata from 1946 known as a "creative work" written under difficult circumstances immediately after World War II. The Sonata for Violin Sonata unaccompanied is in three parts based on a work by the poet Angelo Poliziani, and each movement is descriptive, as is Henze's love of the theater. The Sonatina is a humorous work based on the melody of the children's opera "Policino," in which the violin represents the voice of the grandmother. The Viola Sonata is derived from the ballet "Orpheus," and two pieces are written in memory of his friends.
