Description:

The young daughter, Anise, has gone missing after plotting to elope with her lover Ernesto, and her father, Ubert, is distraught and mentally ill, saying that his daughter is dead. At the hospital, he undergoes various treatments to restore him to his senses, but he shows no signs of recovery. Meanwhile, Anise is betrayed by Ernesto and returns to her father with her newborn daughter. When Uberto hears her singing "Come la nebbia al vento (Like mist in the wind)," he comes to his senses, and the three, including Ernesto who has come back to ask for forgiveness, reconcile and embrace their daughter in a happy ending. Ferdinando Paale was born in Parma in 1771 and received his first musical instruction from his father. He and his contemporary Simon Maile were considered the "important opera composers" of their time, with more than 50 operas to their credit.Originally composed in 1809 for a private performance by amateur singers and staged at the Parma Theater, "Anise" was so well received that it was adapted in 1824, and is considered Paale's masterpiece, a well-balanced opera that combines comic and serious elements. In this production, various scenes are developed using movable devices, and the psychology of the characters is accurately portrayed. The singers' excellent singing, especially Markus Werba's superb performance as Ubert, the father who has fallen into madness, is particularly impressive. The Orchestra of the Royal Opera House of Turin, under the excellent direction of Diego Fasolis, who is a keen interpreter of baroque works, also gives an outstanding performance. Naxos Japan
