The complete symphonic works of Bulgarian composer and conductor Emil Tabakov. Tabakov has always sought to depict the depths of the human spirit in his epic scores, and his 1985 "Concert Pieces for Orchestra," included in this third collection, is a violent and ambitious little work, and his 1997 "Symphony No. 4" does not change his style. The first and third movements, with their leisurely tempo, have a coolness reminiscent of a lazy glacier, but the second movement is set to a vivacious Bulgarian dance, creating an ingenious contrast between the movements. The emotional outburst in the dark and intense final movement is also impressive. Naxos Japan
