Luca Marenzio was active during the late Italian Renaissance. He was known as one of the most popular madrigale composers of his time, and his works were much sought after. The style of his early works was light and fluid, but his works gradually grew in complexity and seriousness, due in part to his creative policy of faithfully following the text of the verses being sung. In his mature and later works, Marenzio's writing style is characterized by extreme solemnity and boldness, sometimes using dissonance and chromatic techniques. Rosso Polpola" is an ensemble of young players formed in 2010. The ensemble is highly acclaimed for its performances of mainly Italian Renaissance and early Baroque music, reading texts in depth and giving their own unique interpretations. Naxos Japan
