Description:
The fourth collection in Toccata's ongoing series "Jewish Music in Russia" consists of works by Solomon Rosowski, a founding member of the Jewish Folk Music Society. Born in Riga, Solomon was a hazzan who played a leadership role in the Jewish community, not only as a composer but also as the musical director of the Moscow Jewish Theatre, where he worked to create a space for many underprivileged Jewish musicians. Solomon's works incorporate various elements from biblical words to modern music, and his nostalgic melodies leave a strong impression on the listener. While "Songs of the Jews" is written with simple and clear music, the "Jacob and Rachel" Suite, which takes its theme from the Bible, offers a variety of music from the sorrowful to the lively.
