Description:
[Christian Thielemann, the principal conductor of the Staatskapelle Dresden and general music director of the Salzburg Easter Festival, is regarded as one of the world masters of German music. The second recording of the big project "Bruckner: The Complete Symphonies" with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, with whom he has established a close relationship as the most important conductor, is the Bruckner Symphony No. 3, which has the most manuscripts among the nine numbered symphonies, as it was revised repeatedly until his last years, and the conductor's musical direction is clearly expressed in the selection of the score used. Symphony No. 3. Thielemann used the second draft of the Novak revision, which has a coda in the third movement and a large scale and clear structure in the fourth movement, to create a masterful performance with a large scale of majesty. It was performed live at a subscription concert in Vienna's Musikvereinsaal in November 2020 under Corona, that is, just before the legendary Japan tour with Gergiev, and the program consisted solely of this symphony. This is the first recording by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in 32 years, since the Haitink recording in 1988, which was based on the old Eser edition of the second draft of the symphony.
