Description:
A collection of chamber cantatas for soprano and wind quartet by German composer Peter Helmut Lang. Peter Helmut Lang was born in 1974 in Herrenberg, Baden-Württemberg. As the titles suggest, the works on this CD depict the life of the Virgin Mary. Lang was inspired to write music by the beautiful altarpieces and sculptures in the church of Mary in Gera-Unterlmhaus, Thuringia, Germany. The style of the music is neoclassical, serene, and beautiful. The soprano soloist is Tsujii Akiho, a soprano from Osaka, Japan. After graduating from Aichi Prefectural University of Fine Arts and Music and its graduate school, Tsujii studied in Germany, and as of 2018 she is under contract with the theaters in Altenberg-Gera and Würzburg. Ensemble diX is a woodwind quartet of woodwind members of the Altenberg-Gera Philharmonic Orchestra. The name Dix (spelled diX) is derived from Otto Dix (1891-1969), a painter born there.
