René Jacobs, the Countertenor Revolutionary, Recordings on the ACCENT Label in a BOX! René Jacobs, a master of the ancient music world, is now a conductor who has given many famous performances, but until the early 1990s, he was also known as a countertenor. Jacobs was born on October 30, 1946 in Ghent, a town in northern Belgium. As a child, he was a member of the choir of Ghent Cathedral. He studied under the famous Belgian tenor Louis Dubos and the British countertenor Alfred Deller, who encouraged him to become a countertenor, and he has participated in recordings by Leonhardt, Arnoncourt, and the Kuijken brothers. 1977 saw the release of " Since 1988, he has been a professor at the Schola Cantorum Basel.In recent years, with the Berlin Academy of Ancient Music and the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, he has been actively introducing highly acclaimed works ranging from Monteverdi to Mozart, religious music, Baroque opera to symphonic music. This boxed set commemorates Jacobs' 70th birthday and collects his recordings as a countertenor singer on the ACCENT label between 1978 and 1982.
