A Long-Awaited Treat for Harpsichord Fans! A Collection of Sonatas by Sebastián de Albero! A CD featuring a collection of sonatas by Sebastián de Albero—a long-awaited treat for harpsichord fans. Sebastián de Albero (1722–1756) was a composer born in Roncal, in the far north of Spain. He was seven years older than Antonio Soler, and both belonged to a generation strongly influenced by Domenico Scarlatti. That said, Albero’s music is delicate, fresh, and deeply captivating. Unfortunately, Albero died young at the age of just 33, leaving behind only a small body of work. As a result, he has long been regarded merely as a composer associated with Domenico Scarlatti, and there have been very few CDs dedicated solely to his music. Veteran harpsichordist Mario Raskin has recorded the first half of the 30 surviving sonatas. This is likely the first time such a comprehensive collection of Alberò’s sonatas has been compiled. Anyone who enjoys listening to Scarlatti’s sonatas will likely find great pleasure in Alberò’s as well, and will surely lament the untimely death of a talent who would likely have been a leading figure in Spanish instrumental music of the late 18th century. The recording features a rare harpsichord built in 1776 by Christian Krol (1745–1782), now housed at Château de Villars-sur-Seine, about 50 km northwest of Paris. Listeners can enjoy the sound of this original, masterfully crafted instrument—not a replica. Tobu Shoji Co., Ltd.
