As a singer-songwriter with a unique voice and a producer with solid skills, Sang-Hwa has been supported by Kendrick Lamar, Stormzy, Travis Scott, Drake, Solange, Frank Ocean, Beyoncé, Lil Wayne... Sanfa has garnered the support of a long list of artists, and her debut album, released in 2017, proudly won the Mercury Prize for the best album of the year in the UK/Ireland. After a long wait for a new album, he has released his second album "LAHAI" on the Young label, his first in six years. LAHAI, named after his paternal grandfather and Sang-Hwa's middle name, is a work filled with awe and wonder at our existence, and a comprehensive expression of the exquisite chaos we experience when faced with the cycle of life and beyond (=death).Comprised of 14 tracks, the album features Sanfa's close friends and collaborators, including Yeji, Leah Sen, Sheila Maurice Gray (Coco Loco), Ibeyi, Morgan Simpson (Black Midi), Yusef Days, Laura Groves, and Quake Bass. The album incorporates jazz, soul, hip-hop, breaks, jungle, and even a touch of West African music, elevating Sanfa's production and vocal explorations to new heights. This is an album of what Sanfa calls "beyond-ness," time-traveling through generations of people, sounds, and places, exploring the many ways we humans try to connect with each other and with something bigger than ourselves. If his previous work "Process" was about an artist trying to find his place in the world in the shadow of grief and loss, "LAHAI" is an expression of the ultimate acceptance and joy of human existence, and the beauty of that journey itself.Other artwork and new logo for "LAHAI" are by internationally acclaimed creative directors Johnny Lu and Sanfa.
