The album title foreshadows the addiction that would soon cut short this self-taught musician's career, and features songs written by fellow saxophonists (including Ornette Coleman's "Tears Inside" and Buddy Collette's "A Bit of Basie"). Pepper's own "Las Cuevas de Mario," which he plays in his most supple form, is particularly outstanding in five-quarter time and would appear in his set lists for years to come.
