Description:

Acclaimed trumpeter Keyon Harold moves to Concord Jazz and releases his first new album in six years, featuring a host of great artists! Acclaimed trumpeter/composer Keyon Harold has moved to Concord Jazz and released his first new album in six years. An internationally acclaimed trumpeter and composer, Keyon Harold has played on numerous Grammy Award-winning projects and has been widely praised for his singular sound that transcends jazz, R&B, hip-hop, and pop. Keyon Harold has performed with such luminaries as Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Eminem, Maxwell, Mac Miller, and Snoop Dogg. His new album, "Foreverland," features 10 timely and timeless original songs that explore themes of empowerment, positivity, love, loss, and vulnerability. Guests on the album include Laura Mavura and Malaya, as well as Grammy Award-winning artists Common, Robert Glasper, PJ Morton, Gene Baylor, Chris Dave, legendary musician Greg Philingains, Bigyuki, and more. Prior to the album release, Keyon Harold released a single, "Find Your Peace" (Single Edit), featuring longtime collaborators Common, Robert Glasper, and vocalist Gene Baylor, as well as his own vocals.Prior to starting work on the album, Keyon Harold had been reeling from a coronavirus outbreak, the death of his mother, and a racially charged assault on his 14-year-old son. Keillon says that playing music with his family for months at a time has helped him regain his strength. The sessions allowed him to enter a deeper space of creativity, transforming pain into power and taking his music to a new level. With each note he plays, he has a deeper awakening and a new creative energy that he hasn't felt in years. He cites an extensive list of inspirations, from Radiohead and Fela Kuti to Coltrane and the Fleet Foxes. The album Foreverland is a family affair, with nearly all the musicians longtime friends, and Keyon attributes the album's warmth to its dynamism. It's like the ingredients for a good dish: you can't just use any pepper, you need a certain kind of pepper." Every musician on this album is a rare and essential ingredient." The lineup includes Chris Dave and Marcus Gilmore on drums; Nia Felder, Randy Runyon, and Justus West on guitar; Bernice Travis and Brandon Owens on bass; Greg Philingains on piano/keyboards; Bigyuki, Shedrick Mitchell, Jaharry Stampley, and Jahi Sundance on turntables, and Keyon Harold himself sings on four songs on the album.
