Horenstein & Orchestre National de Radio France. A live performance of Beethoven's "Ninth" by Horenstein, a master of Mahler and Bruckner on an unprecedented scale, is now available from DOREMI. Horenstein's performance of Beethoven's Ninth with the Orchestre National de Radio France was recorded for broadcast by Radio France and is the same as the performance in the 9-disc set released on other labels, but this is probably the first time it has been released as a video work. The CD version of the performance was as heated as one would expect, but the video version is even more impressive, especially with Horenstein's conducting. The same Beethoven's First Symphony was also performed on the same day.Another well-known recording of Horenstein's Beethoven 9th is the session recording he made with the Vienna Pro Musica Orchestra for VOX in 1956, which also featured bass Wiener as soloist.
