You can fully immerse yourself in the world of *Arabella*, which depicts late 19th-century aristocratic society through an abundance of beautiful melodies! The story revolves around the romantic entanglements of four characters: the sisters Arabella and Zdenka (who was raised as a boy), daughters of Count Waldner—a retired military officer on the brink of bankruptcy; Mandryka, his wealthy nephew who falls in love with Arabella at first sight; and Matteo, who continues to harbor feelings for Arabella. In addition to the enchanting orchestral music, this opera is packed with highlights, such as Arabella’s aria in Act I and the duet between Arabella and Mandrika in Act III. Jacqueline Wagner, who plays Arabella, is a soprano trained in the United States. She has performed a wide-ranging repertoire at opera houses around the world—including Vienna, New York, Düsseldorf, and Berlin—in roles such as the Countess in *The Marriage of Figaro*, Donna Anna in *Don Giovanni*, and Violetta in *La Traviata*. James Lutherford, who plays Mandrika, is a baritone who, after winning the International Wagner Competition in Seattle, has been active in various Wagner operas and Verdi works. In this recording as well, he delivers a truly magnificent performance as Mandrika. Mark Albrecht is a German conductor born in 1964. He served as music director of the Strasbourg Philharmonic from 2008 to 2011 and currently serves as music director of the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra.
