A journey from the dawn to the dusk of the Romantic era, featuring the virtuoso clarinetists Portal and d'Albert. The two have known each other for a long time, dating back to their first collaboration on Dalbert's debut album released in 1977, and this is a collection of clarinet works from the Romantic period. The sonatas from Poulenc's last years were premiered by Benny Goodman and Leonard Bernstein, and Portal seems to be closely related to Poulenc through jazz, but Portal, who says he received advice on performance directly from Poulenc himself, never sounds jazz-like in his expression and is very different from Goodman and others. Portal's expression was not jazz-like at all, and was very different from that of Goodman and his colleagues. In the following Schumann and Brahms, as well as in Berg, which they regard as an extension of German Romanticism, Portal's music is rich and fertile, with a deep sense of song.
