Previously unreleased recordings by New Orleans legend Dr. John for the Clean Cuts label from 1982 to 1983! This is a miraculous compilation of songs that were not included in the recently re-released and highly successful "Dr. John Plays Mac Rebennack(81)" and "The Brightest Smile In Town(83)" solo piano series (two songs also include vocals)! The songs are in the New Orleans piano tradition of blues, jazz, boogie-woogie, and jive. Malcolm John Rebennack Jr. aka Dr. John, is a pianist and singer from New Orleans, born in 1941 to a father who owned a record store, and was exposed to a variety of music from an early age. In the mid-1960s, he moved to Los Angeles and began his career as a studio musician. After joining the Wrecking Crew, he made his solo debut in 1968 with "Gris-Gris" on Atco, followed by his masterpiece "Gumbo" in 1972 and his biggest hit "Right Place Wrong Time" the following year, which reached #9 in the US.In 1989, "Makin' Whoopee" earned him a Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Performance, and he won a total of six Grammys during his lifetime. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011 and died of a heart attack in 2019 at the age of 77.
