To commemorate their performance at DUBSESSIONS 2026 in September 2026, Nightmares on Wax’s mixtape *Echo45SoundSystem* is set to be released on CD for the first time! For over 30 years, Nightmares on Wax has continued to push the boundaries of electronic music. From classics like *SmokersDelight* and *CarbootSoul* to *InASpaceOuttaSound* and *ShoutOut!ToFreedom*, his music has fluidly traversed soul, hip-hop, jazz, reggae, dub, and electronic genres, forging a unique, timeless sound. *Echo45SoundSystem*, now available on CD for the first time, was originally released in 2025 exclusively as a digital download and on LP. It is a work that pays homage to the sound system culture of Leeds—where he has deep roots—and serves as a statement connecting his musical background to the future. His long journey with sound systems began when he named an old speaker cabinet he inherited from his mother “Echo45.” Created in the spirit of that legacy, this album fuses elements of soul, roots reggae, hip-hop, dub, and electronic music, offering a true contemporary sound system experience. And it is only fitting that *Echo45SoundSystem*—a work imbued with deep respect for sound system culture—is being released on CD for the first time to coincide with DUBSESSIONS 2026, a special event that will also feature a collaboration with Adrian Sherwood. Adrian Sherwood, who has had a profound influence on the development of the UK dub scene and has pursued the acoustic space itself as a medium for expression, and Nightmares on Wax, who have sublimated the spirit of the sound system into their own music.
