The Dresden Chamber Choir, conducted by Hans-Christoph Rademann, presents a charming recording of Advent and Christmas music. It is the most important and joyful four weeks of the year for the German people. The hymns included here are a selection of hymns by Michael Praetorius. Michael Praetorius collected a vast number of hymns with words and melodies, which he compiled into the nine-volume "Muses of Zion". From the Roots of Esai" is a carol originally from a German region. Praetorius adopted only the first verse or two and, in addition, replaced the emphasis in the second verse from Mary to the infant Jesus. Since then, it has been included in Protestant songbooks and has become a world-famous song for Advent. 450 years after his birth & 400 years after his death in 2021, Michael Praetorius was a German composer and organist of the early 17th century.First and foremost, what is most impressive is the extraordinary creativity he acquired through self-study and the vast amount of work he produced during his not-so-long life. His continued association with hymnody throughout his life may also have been a statement of his beliefs. King International
