The main piece is Vivaldi's famous psalm piece "Nisi dominus (If the Lord would build a house)" RV.608, a masterpiece full of beautiful melodies. Vivaldi's two concertos for strings are also arranged like overtures to other works. Lotti, who was music director at St. Mark's Basilica in his later years, is best known for his poignant religious choral work "Crucified," but here we hear a rare work (world premiere recording), a religious work for solo alto voice. Caldara, who was active as a choir member and instrumentalist at St. Mark's Basilica in his 20s and later moved to Mantova, Rome, and Vienna, is known for composing many operas, but he also left many oratorios as well.
