Description:
The oratorio (sacred drama) "Death and Life" was composed in 1884 and premiered at the Birmingham Festival on August 26, 1885. The first part begins with a requiem in which the chorus and baritone soloists proclaim a terrifying prophecy of death. In the second part, the resurrection of the dead is proclaimed by a harsh and terrible chorus, and the final judgment, the resurrection of the dead, is played. In the third part, the new heaven and new earth are sung, and bright joys and gladness are played. This is a rare and rarely performed work, requiring a magnificent chorus and large orchestra, and was recorded by Plasson in 1992 as a valuable work by the French composer. Warner Music Japan
