Anna Calvi, the London-based singer-songwriter who has captivated everyone from Brian Eno and Nick Cave to the Arctic Monkeys. This EP marks the first chapter of a trilogy centered on the theme of "an identity shaped and transformed by the experience of falling in love." Drawing on her own experience of having her worldview profoundly shaken by childbirth, she delves into modern loneliness, the loss of intimacy, and the fundamental question of “what it truly means to live with full awareness.” Having composed the music for the final season of *Peaky Blinders* and collaborated with Robert Wilson on an opera, Carvey has crafted this work as a musical piece akin to a “four-song film.” The opening track, “God’s Lonely Man,” features Iggy Pop, embodying a destructive inner voice. The following track, “I See a Darkness,” is a duet with Perfume Genius that quietly depicts the intimacy of a friendship that transcends romance. Furthermore, Laurie Anderson joins on “Computer Love,” a reimagining of the Kraftwerk classic. It brings to light the loneliness and emotional void of the digital age through a voice that is both mechanical and human. The title track, which closes the album, features Matt Berninger of The National, powerfully resonating with "the courage to believe in hope despite everything."
