Sorry for the wait. Here comes the third installment of the Profil Mravinsky Series! The Profil Mravinsky Series Profile label, at our request, has unearthed Mravinsky's tapes from German broadcasters' collections. The first two series, which reprinted a number of tapes provided by Soviet broadcasters at the time, were extremely well received. This third series is also a fan favorite. This time, all the recordings are session recordings from the 1940s and 1950s, the earliest period of his recording career, and are therefore very valuable. Tchaikovsky's "Sleeping Beauty" is a delight, with 11 well-known pieces. Mravinsky's fresh youthfulness can be felt in this masterful performance. The most pleasing pieces are Bruckner's Symphony No. 8, Kalinnikov's No. 2, and Shostakovich's Symphony No. 8, which was the most recent at the time. I am thrilled that the sound quality is much better than the former Russian discs and others. Mravinsky's Symphony No. 5 is the first complete recording of Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5, one of his many symphonies. Around the time of the recording, the infamous "Zhidanov Criticism" took place, and Mravinsky's contemporaries, including Shostakovich, were denounced in the infernal times. This performance shows the energy of rebellion against such atmosphere. Most of them are hard to find and are very welcome because they use new sound sources. And at a surprisingly low price, this is a new Mravinsky masterpiece. King International
