Formed at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London by Welsh flutist Caris Gittins, Agnieszka Ziniewicz (viola) from Poland, and Liese Vandersmissen (harp) from Belgium—this trio, formed at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, has garnered attention for its meticulous ensemble playing that brings out the full tonal potential of each instrument. The centerpiece of the program is Debussy’s late masterpiece, the “Sonata for Flute, Viola, and Harp”—a landmark work for this instrumentation. The album also features Hillary Tan’s “From the Songs of Amaghin,” which draws strong inspiration from Welsh nature and Celtic literature. Furthermore, in “Slices of Life” by the young Portuguese composer Francisco Fontes, the composer himself joins as a narrator, delivering a thrilling performance that interweaves text from Fernando Pessoa’s Book of Disquiet with the music.
