World-renowned violinist Arabella Miho Steinbacher has recorded a collection of violin masterpieces with the Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra led by Lawrence Foster! The program includes Zigoinelwaizen, Carmen Fantasy (Waxman), Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso, Habanera, Meditation on Thais, Aerial Hibari, and Tzigane, a super-duper masterpiece. Waxman was a German-born American composer, and this Carmen Fantasy, dedicated to Jascha Heifetz, is his masterpiece. The program begins with a very gorgeous "March," taken from the prelude to the first act of the opera, followed by a superb arpeggio by the solo violin. This is followed by the sparkling melodies that appear in the Carmen, such as "Habanera," "Carta Song," "Aragonese," and "Gypsy Song. Steinbacher sings them with great eloquence, as if she were an opera singer. The Zigoinelweisen and Tzigane are also outstanding.The left hand plays a series of pizzicato and flageolet with great elegance. Steinbacher's playing is not only technical, but also full of songfulness. Founded in 1853, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo of the Principality of Monaco has a long history and has been led by such renowned conductors as Paley, Markevich, Matacic, Janowski, and Kreizberg.
