Description:

Gala Concert Celebrating the L.A. Philharmonic's 100th AnniversaryFrom Dudamel to Mehta to Salonen, the Philharmonic's conductors of the past have come together to perform a program that is the essence of the L.A. Philharmonic. The Los Angeles Philharmonic held its first concert on October 24, 1919, and exactly one century later, in October 2019, the Philharmonic held its 100th Anniversary Gala Concert at its home base, Walt Disney Concert Hall. Concert Hall for its 100th Anniversary Gala Concert. The Los Angeles Philharmonic was founded in 1919 by wealthy William Andrews Clark, Jr. The first concert was held with Walter Henry Rothwell as conductor. Since then, distinguished conductors have served as music directors. Klemperer, Wallenstein, Baynum, and in 1962, Zubin Mehta, then 26 years old, became Music Director (1962-78), followed by Giulini and Previn, and then Esa-Pekka Salonen, one of the leading figures in the orchestra's transformation, took over in 1992 (-2009), and now Gustavo Dudamel is the current music director of the orchestra.Dudamel has revitalized the city and brought it into a new era of educational activities and interest from young people. This gala concert brings together the current Music Director Gustavo Dudamel, Conductor Emeritus Zubin Mehta, and Conductor Laureate Esa-Pekka Salonen, and features a program that can be considered the DNA of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. In addition to the concert footage, the program also includes a documentary that unravels the history of the L.A. Philharmonic. It depicts the Los Angeles community itself and the results of the Los Angeles Philharmonic's 100-year history of meeting its audiences in a way that is uniquely Los Angeles Philharmonic.
