Mozart's "Turkish Style" & Dvořák's "From the New World"- Legendary Collaboration of Karajan and Clouzot, Performance & Interview, Rehearsal In 1965, Karajan, a "media darling" who foresaw the coming of the age of the moving image, founded Cosmotel, a film and film production company, the predecessor of Unitel. Karajan was the first to make "concert films on film". With the intention of "making concert works on film," Karajan sought the cooperation of French film director Henri-Georges Clouzot, a master filmmaker known for his films "The Reward of Fear" and "Manon the Loving Woman. Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 5 with Menuhin as soloist was recorded in January 1966.This is the follow-up to Schumann's Fourth Symphony, recorded in November and December of the previous year, also with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. The Vienna Symphony Orchestra and Karajan worked together from the postwar period to the mid-1950s, when Karajan became the artistic director and permanent conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic, and the two orchestras are known to have collaborated with each other. The exchange between Menuhin and Karajan is also clearly captured, and perhaps as a result of Karajan's or Clouseau's idea, the orchestra surrounds the conductor and soloist in a circle instead of the usual concert layout, which is an interesting aspect of studio video works.The following "From the New World" with the Berlin Philharmonic was recorded in the studio at the same time, and the faithful camera work that follows the progress of the music and approaches each performance part can be said to be the basic style of today's concert video works. Both Dvorak and Mozart were recorded on 35mm film (for the main program only), and although in black-and-white, the image quality is of a standard that is still acceptable today. In addition, an interview with Karajan is included as a bonus. The beginning of the Mozart concert is also enjoyable, with Menuhin playing "The Beautiful Blue Danube" as Karajan walks to the piano and begins to play. The interview with Dvořák, in which the renowned music critic Joachim Kaiser talks to Karajan as he walks to the piano, is probably the first time this part has been made available in software.
