Live recording of a recital given by Gina Bachauer (1913-1976) at the Salle Pleyel in Paris on November 6, 1963. Gina Bachauer was a Jewish Greek born in Athens. Gina is a nickname for her real name, Louisa. Her grandfather was one of the attendants of Oson I (=Otto), who moved to Athens as the first king of the Kingdom of Greece from the royal family of Bavaria, and further back from Austria. She was a member of the entourage of King Oson I (=Otto), who moved to Athens as the first king of Greece, and was born in Austria further back. Bachauer made her debut in Paris in 1929 with great success. From the 1930s onward, Bachauer was an internationally popular pianist, and unlike many of the other pianists on the Meloclassic CDs, Bachauer made quite a few recordings, most notably the Mercury recordings of the 1950s in the U.S. and the 1960s. His Mercury recordings from the 1950s in the U.S. are well known. On this CD, Bachauer, who is just 50 years old, gives a very full performance. Bachauer's piano has a unique flair, and she is like a lady or queen of the piano.He was a pianist with a wide range of artistic skills, from his dynamic performance of the Great Gate of Kiev in Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition" (which includes the audience's enthusiastic applause) to the precise music of Ravel's "Gaspar at Night" and the delicate, soft joy of Montpeau's "Young Ladies in the Garden".
