Under the name of Elder Trio, consisting of Oliver Lake (as), Reggie Workman (b), and Andrew Cyril (ds), the group has recently released collaborative works featuring guest pianists such as Juli Allen and Jason Moran. The current release is a much-talked-about album featuring the pianist Vijay Iyer, who is in his prime at the moment, throughout. Vijay's piano playing, which provokes Lake's saxophone to play various moments from free and avant-garde to rich blues, captures a side of him that can only be heard in these sessions.
