Larry Willis was born in New York City in 1942. He studied music theory at the Manhattan School of Music and began performing regularly with Jackie McLean. His first jazz recording was McLean's 1965 album. Willis mixed soulful hard bop with an intellectual modernism rooted in Bill Evans, Wynton Kelly, and Herbie Hancock, and worked extensively in jazz fusion, Afro-Cuban jazz, bebop, and avant-garde. He played with jazz musicians such as Hugh Masekela, Stan Getz, Cannonball Adderley, and Woody Shaw, and played keyboards in the rock band Blood, Sweat, and Tears. Just in Time was recorded in 1989. Bob Cranshaw on bass and Kenny Washington on drums. The lyrical touch of the piano, deep harmonies, sophisticated rhythms, and the charm of their trio blossomed greatly on this album.Just in Time," with a swing feel, the introspective "Soul Search," the Thelonious Monk-inspired "T's Bag Blues," the Latin-tinged "Te Quiero Mi Hermano" (I Love You, My Brother), and the Herbie Hancock homage One Finger Snap," a tribute to Herbie Hancock. A recording of "great timing" by the members, to whom Willis himself paid heartfelt tribute. This is a remastered 180g vinyl LP release.
