Two and a half years after their last UK Top 40 hit, Porridge Radio, the indie rock band led by Brighton DIY scene leader Dana Margolin, has completed their fourth album, "Clouds In The Sky They Will Always Be There For Me". Porridge Radio will release its fourth album, Clouds In The Sky They Will Always Be There For Me, on Secretly Canadian. Clouds In The Sky They Will Always Be There For Me is a coming-of-age moment inspired by burnout, the music industry, heartbreak, and band leader Dana Margolin's own immersion in the craft of being an artist. Margolin's ruthlessly self-questioning style is patiently built throughout the album, tragically intense and matched with the sound of the most influential band ever.Almost every song began with a poem," Margolin says of her different approach to songwriting. Having learned that songwriters can always hide behind musical tricks, she continues, "but you can't hide in poetry. The beginning of 2023, when the incessant touring with "Waterslide, Diving Board, Ladder To The Sky" ended, was a time for Margolin to think about identity, creativity, and family, and to question her verses. She wanted to find a way forward, "How do I maintain my creativity without hurting myself? At the same time, after recovering from burnout, she ended a brief but intense romantic relationship. As evidenced by the lead single "Sick of the Blues," this love affair and subsequent heartbreak became the genesis of the songs that comprise Clouds In The Sky They Will Always Be There For Me.Says Margolin, "Much of the album is about a more frenetic and desperate love." Produced by Dom Monks, longtime engineer for Big Thief and Laura Marling, Clouds In The Sky They Will Always Be There For Me was recorded in Flume in early 2024. (guitar, vocals), Georgie Stott (keyboards, backing vocals), Sam Yardley (drums, keyboards), and Dan Hutchins (bass) worked more closely than ever on the album, This time, everyone recorded in the same room as the producer. We are known as a very specific and emotionally intense live band, and Dom knew how to convey that feeling," says Margolin. Margolin looks back on the album with the enthusiasm of having made a true creative leap forward. 'I feel like I've created something for the first time,' he says.I captured something about our friendship as a band and what we have learned from playing together. To follow my instincts to the hilt, to trust my friends and their loyalty, to trust myself to fight properly with people and still come back together. Making records is my life, my work, and my pleasure. Everything is tied to this, and there is a way here that doesn't hurt me," Margolin says.
