At The Five Spot Cafe" was recorded by Kenny Burrell with Art Blakey and Tina Brooks at the Five Spot Cafe in New York City on August 25, 1959, and six previously unreleased tracks recorded on the same day have been added to this live masterpiece to create The Complete The Complete Masters is the latest release in Blue Note's Tone Poet analog reissue series, which Blue Note has been actively expanding in recent years. Kenny Burrell made his first live recording as a leader on August 25, 1959 at the legendary Five Spot Cafe in New York City. The band he assembled for this show, which was already highly acclaimed for his Blue Note recordings at the time, consisted of Art Blakey (ds), Tina Brooks (ts), Bobby Timmons (p), Roland Hanna (p), and Ben Tucker (b), the best lineup at the time. The performance was soulful and passionate, and is still regarded as one of the best hard bop recordings of all time. The remastering was done by Kevin Gray, who has worked on the Tone Poet series. The cutting/remastering was done from the original master tapes, and the natural and warm sound, which has been highly acclaimed on previous reissues, provides an experience as if you are listening to the analog tapes as they were. The booklet includes never-before-seen photos by Francis Wolfe, an insightful essay by Sid Schwartz, and an interview with Kenny Burrell himself looking back on those days with Blue Note president Don Was. Kenny Burrell said of the film, "The Five Spot was a real jazz club. It was fun to play there. I knew the audience knew jazz. They knew the jazz musicians, and they expected a certain level of musicianship from those who played there. I was happy to be there as a musician. Also available on 180g weight 3LP!
