Arland Cooper Carve the Runes Then Be Content With Silence, the new album by innovative Scottish composer & producer Arland Cooper, will be released from master tapes buried underground in the spring of 2021 and discovered in the fall of 2022 This is a milestone in the history of the project. Buried deep in the earth of the Scottish Highlands and Orkney Islands, all digital copies were deleted at that time. Three years later, it is being released from the very earth. The recorded Carve the Runes Then Be Content With Silence is a new three-movement work for solo violin and string ensemble by Cooper. After digitization, Cooper completed the score for live performance as a true collaboration with the natural world, and it will be performed live in concert in the UK, Europe, and the US. The work was written to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Orkney's celebrated poet, George Mackay Brown, in 2021. 'This piece is part memory, part celebration of a landmark era. The tape material may naturally corrode, crumble, or give rise to silent sections, or Pete's soil may preserve it perfectly. It may or may not improve with time. It may or may not lose its enthusiasm for its own composition, which is not complete until it is rearranged for performance. Once the adjustments to the sound and music [when it comes out of the ground] are incorporated into the pages of the new score and the live performance like orchestral articulations, then the work is complete."--Arlando Cooper (UNIVERSAL MUSIC/IMS)
