Description:
Danacord presents a revival of Denmark's musical heritage! The complete HMV and TONO recordings of violinist Eirling Brock (1904-1992), who led the Danish chamber music scene in the 20th century, are released on CD for the first time. Centered around a revival from Klaus Buhlert's treasured collection, this supreme 6-disc box set is revived with new mastering! Exploring Denmark's 20th-century musical heritage: Danacord Records' series. The recordings violinist Erling Bloch, "pioneer of Danish chamber musicians," left on the HMV and TONO labels are released as a set of six newly remastered CDs. Erling Bloch was born in Copenhagen in 1904. At age 15, he entered the Royal Danish Academy of Music, giving his debut concert in 1922. This was the era when Carl Nielsen composed his Symphony No. 5 and Symphony No. 6. Bloch joined the Royal Danish Orchestra a year later. He taught at the Academy from 1946 and remained with the Royal Orchestra until 1954, when his professorship became too demanding. Brock's career as a chamber musician began when he joined Tove Nilsson's quartet from 1923 to 1924. In 1933, he formed the Earing Brock Quartet with colleagues from the Royal Orchestra. Lavard Friisholm (1912-1999), who studied with Emil Telmann. Hans Kassow (1902-1964), who played with Brok in Tove Nielsen's quartet. The cello part was initially held by founding member Torben Anton Svendsen (1904-1980), who later transitioned to stage director, and was subsequently replaced by Asger Lund Christiansen (1927-1998). He was the son of Holger Lund Christiansen (1900-1959), a piano professor at the academy, and was regarded as a leading cellist of his generation, alongside Brendahl Bengtsson.Upon the changeover, he reportedly received appropriate instructions from Svensen and Brok, and there was no change in style or sound due to the cellist's replacement.
