Description:
Dandrieu’s Chamber and Keyboard Music: A Fusion of Italian and French Styles ◆From a Family of Parisian Musicians: Jean-François Dandrieu (1682–1738) came from a family of musicians who were active in churches and at court. ◆Italian Style + French Style: A 3-CD set featuring chamber music works that assimilate the Italian style of Corelli and others and integrate them into French Baroque composition, as well as charming harpsichord works that seem to anticipate Rameau. The Sarabande (Track 6 on CD 3) from the first volume of his harpsichord works, for example, is reminiscent of Rameau’s famous piece “Les Sauvages,” composed 26 years later. [Track Listing] ◆Trio Sonata Collection, Op. 1: All six sonatas for two violins, cello, and figured bass (continuo), published in 1705. Dandrieu creates a unique world by seamlessly integrating the expressive nuances of the French school into an Italian framework. ◆Violin Sonata Collection, Op. 2: A set of six sonatas for violin and figured bass (continuo), published around 1710. Modeled after Corelli’s masterpiece Op. 55, these works also incorporate delicate French-style ornamentation and the rhythms of courtly dance. ◆Clavichord Works: Volumes 1 and 2 are collections of pieces in the quintessential French Baroque style, while Volume 3 takes the form of a suite composed of simple, short pieces. [Performers] ◆Peter-Jan Belders (Harpsichord): An early music specialist who performs on harpsichord, clavichord, virginal, fortepiano, organ, and other keyboard instruments, as well as the recorder, and also conducts. He is renowned for his precise technique and solid sense of historical style, and his extensive discography maintains a consistently high standard. ◆Rie Kimura (violin) ◆Musica Amphion 【Recording】 ◆Period: Recorded between November 2018 and September 2023. ◆Location: Meinsheerenland, South Holland, and Velp, Gelderland, the Netherlands. 【Product Specifications】 ◆Case: 24mm-thick polystyrene (multi-disc case). ◆Booklet: English. 20 pages. Includes in-depth commentary by musicologist, harpsichordist, and organist John Baxendale. Regarding Printing Errors ◆Reversed Terms: The terms “Trio Sonatas” and “Violin Sonatas” are printed in reverse in six locations. These include the back of the case, the booklet (pages 2 and 3), and the tops of the discs (printed sides of CD 1 and CD 2). Please be aware of this before purchasing.
