Rohan de Saram is one of the most important cellists of the last 50 years, especially in the field of contemporary music. He has been involved in the premieres of works by such distinguished contemporary composers as Berio, Britten, Cage, Glass, Hindemith, Kagel, and Xenakis, and for many years was the cellist of the Arditti Quartet, one of the most superb quartets in contemporary music. Bax's piece, which Salam premiered in the UK, is an original and dramatic masterpiece. Salam also gave the official premiere of Ligeti's unaccompanied sonata. Dallapiccola's piece was written for Casado, and while powerful music, it is exquisitely colorful and humorous. The final piece includes an unaccompanied performance by Casado, a piece that only Salam can speak to. King International
