World premiere recording of Gounod's complete string quartets on period instruments! The complete string quartets of Gounod are now available. This is the world premiere recording of Gounod's complete works for period instruments. The Cambini-Paris String Quartet, which also includes Jun Sakai, has performed works by Jadin in 18th century France, Felicien David in 19th century France, and Mozart. Charles Gounod, also known as the "father of modern French song," is best known for his operas (vocal music), but he is thought to have completed at least five string quartets. In 1993, two completed string quartets were auctioned. The scores were labeled as No. 2 (A major) and No. 3 (F major), but there is still some confusion, as there are two versions of "No. 3" in the composer's lifetime and in posthumously published scores.With the support of the Centre de Musique Romantique de France (Palazzetto Bru Zane), five of Gounod's string quartets have been recorded for the first time in the world on period instruments. Each piece is full of beautiful melodies and rich scenes reminiscent of operatic overtures and scenes. The instruments played by the members are very rich in tone and eloquent in their narration. This is a 2-CD set of great interest! ＜The Cambini-Paris String Quartet was formed in 2007 and is a fierce group of musicians who have performed with some of the world's most renowned period instrument groups, including the Orchestre des Champs-Elysées, Ensemble Baroque de Limoges, and Les Tarrands Liriques. It is named after Giuseppe Maria Cambini (1746-1825), a violinist, composer, and essential figure in the development of the string quartet.
