Description:

Pleyel was a composer, performer, publisher, and piano maker. He studied under Johann Baptiste Vanhal and became a pupil of Joseph Haydn in Eisenstadt in 1772. With the French Revolution, Pleyel moved to London in search of a better place to work as a composer and in the music world. In London, he organized the highly successful "Professional Concerts" organized by Wilhelm Kramer. He then settled in Paris, where he founded a publishing house. In 1807, he founded a publishing house, which included works by Boccherini, Beethoven, Clementi, Hummel, Mozart, Onslow, and many others. In 1807, he also founded a company that produced some of the finest pianos in the world, an achievement that continues to this day. As a composer, he left behind at least 42 symphonies, 70 string quartets, and several operas. This disc contains chamber music in which the clarinet plays a leading role, but these superb works, written for their respective instruments, have a virtuosic aspect that showcases technique as well as the joy of playing them.
