Inspired by the crossover movement of the mid-1970s, the Japanese fusion scene flourished. Hang Rage was born in the midst of this scene, combining members who grew up in rock and those who grew up in jazz. Each member brought their own sense of style to the group, which enhanced the other's, creating a sound that was unique to each. With a toughness that had been developed through many live performances at venues such as the Roppongi Pit Inn and jazz festivals, Hang Lige made their debut in 1983. Although he has only one album to his credit, he has recently been reevaluated in the club scene and is attracting a great deal of attention. Two previously unreleased tracks and one previously released outtake (guest: Katsutoshi Morizono) are studio takes for presentation.The five bonus tracks, including two powerful live recordings of the band's early impulses in its second year of existence, are as substantial as a full-length album. At a time when Japanese fusion, along with city pop, is gaining popularity overseas, Hang Lige's appeal is sure to reach a wide range of users.
