Combined with Ralph Cousins’ superb recording—which beautifully captures the harmony produced by the entire orchestra while achieving exceptional detail—this album allows listeners to immerse themselves comfortably in the music. The “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” rendered with a rich symphonic sound, reaffirms why this work is labeled a “symphonic poem.” "Clair de Lune" is based on the orchestral arrangement Wilson himself created in 1994, and the delicate shifts in timbre produced by the layering of various instruments played softly are exquisite. The following "Joyful March" bursts with lively energy and brightness... and the structure of the album, which creates a sense of ebb and flow throughout, is masterful. The "Carmen" suite is performed in the order Wilson carefully devised, based on the Guiraud/Hoffmann version. It is said to be Wilson’s idea to entrust the melody of the “Habanera” to the trumpet for a brief moment midway through, drawing inspiration from the orchestration of the “Seguidilla.” The effect of the trumpets, positioned at varying distances, calling to one another in “The Dragoons of Alcalá” is a result of the session recording, and such meticulous attention to detail further enhances the listening pleasure.
