A reissue of the rare solo album LPs left by each of Rabinov and Zeidel is now available in the series "Auer's Legacy," which introduces the outstanding students of the famous teacher Leopold Auer. Tosha Seidel (1899-1962), included in the first half of the album, was born in Odesa, Ukraine, the same town as Oistrakh and Mirshtein. Auer considered Heifetz and Seidel, two pupils of about the same age, to be twins, calling them "the angel and the devil. Soon after his debut at Carnegie Hall in April 1918, Seidel signed a contract with Columbia in the U.S. as a competitor to Heifetz at RCA, but there have been few serious recordings, especially from the LP era, and the only one recorded here seems to be on the Impresario label. According to the description, this was a private recording, not intended for commercial release, and has never been listed in the Schwann catalog. The performance is strong and propulsive, with a clear and crisp rhythm and rhythm. The brilliant sound of the Stradivarius "Da Vinci," which Seidel acquired in 1925, and the technique with which he plays it, sometimes sharply, sometimes sweetly, are also worth listening to. Frank's performance is identical to LAB 138, which was released on Biddulph in 1999. Benno Rabinov (1908-1975), recorded in the second half of the album, was born in the United States and was Auer's pupil after he moved to the United States. Auer, who held him in high esteem, took it upon himself to conduct Rabinov at his Carnegie Hall debut concert in November 1927, where he gave a successful performance of Elgar and Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto. Rabinov worked extensively with his wife, the pianist Sylvia, as a duo, and Martineau composed and premiered a concerto for violin and piano for them. Rabinov was also not blessed with recordings in the LP era, and only two have survived.One of them is Vivaldi's Concerto for two violins with Elmer Oliveira (accompanied by Sylvia Rabinov on piano, Paganiniana label), and the only solo LP reissued on this CD is Decca's "Gypsy Violin Classics". As the title of the album suggests, this is a solo LP. As the album title suggests, the album is full of superb virtuosity, strong contrasts between slow and fast passages, and sobbing melodies in the slow passages, making it a very enjoyable listen. The album was originally released in mono and then in pseudo-stereo. Since this disc is a relatively new recording from 1964, both highs and lows are well-developed and not too hard, giving the listener a sense of spaciousness and depth. Naxos Japan
