To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Las Palmas Symphony Orchestra, a Canary Islands orchestra, this album features arrangements of valuable folk songs from the islands. In the Canary Islands, it is not unusual for classical musicians to be interested in folk songs, and "Canarian Songs," based on folk songs by Theobald Power, an internationally successful composer from the Canary Islands born in 1848, has become an anthem for the islanders. The album features numerous arrangements by contemporary composers and arrangers, including British composer Peter Hope (1930-). The exquisite orchestration and singing techniques, which incorporate modern aesthetics while respecting the basics of the island's ancient and proud folklore tradition, bring a new sense of value and festivity to the folk songs.
