Two Contrasting Modern French Works] The Deutsche Symphonieorchester Berlin and its music director Robin Ticciati, now in its third season, present two major modern French works on the fourth CD, the third in a combination of Debussy's orchestral works and a contemporary French vocal work with Kojenner. The CD4 is the third CD in the series of Debussy's orchestral works and French vocal works of the same period with Kojener. In particular, the combination of "The Sea" and "Forgotten Songs" (CKD550) has been highly acclaimed in various fields. Duruflé, who served as a choir member and later as an organist at Notre Dame Cathedral and other large churches in France, composed the "Requiem" in 1947, a very beautiful work based on Gregorian chant, which is widely popular in Japan as well as in Fauré. Here, it is performed in a full orchestral version, with Kojenner as mezzo-soprano soloist, but the baritone solo is replaced by a unison of choral basses.On the other hand, Debussy, who was not active in going to church throughout his life and did not leave any religious works, wrote "Nocturne" at the end of the 1890s. Ticchiati's delicate stick work and the strong ensemble of the Deutsche Symphony Orchestra Berlin bring a pleasant swell to the music. Naxos Japan
