Description:

Conductor Hannu Lintu is a very active conductor on the ONDINE label. He was principal conductor of the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra until 2013 and is currently principal conductor of the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra. His previous work, Messiaen's Turangalila Symphony, was a wonderful performance that made full use of the orchestra's functionality and acoustics, and now comes an even more interesting series of Luciano Berio's works. Berio (1925-2003) is an Italian contemporary composer whose works need no further explanation. He wrote works using a variety of techniques, but from the 1950s he and his then-wife, singer Kathy Barberian, are also known for their pursuit of the limits of vocal music. The "Four Variations," based on a piece by Boccherini, was commissioned by La Scala in Milan, and when Berio was asked to compose the opening number for the theater at this time, he used his orchestral virtuosity to write these variations. Harmonically, it is an extremely pleasant piece of music with absolutely nothing modern about it. Carmo" is a memorial to the death of one of his friends, Bruno Maderna. It is a song (?) with a text that Maderna loved. It is a song (?) with a text that Maderna loved. And "Sinfonia". This one is already a well-known work, and the title "Sinfonia" is a strange one, meaning a confluence of diverse voices, not in the symphonic tradition. Perhaps the most obvious is the allusion to the works of several composers, including Mahler, in the third movement. The way the various pieces of music emerge in fragments is similar to the way the scales of a fish reflect the light in Mahler's original composition. It is a complex piece, but perhaps no other piece is as interesting to listen to. Naxos Japan
