Point Blank, a Southern & Boogie rock band that debuted in the late ’70s as the “little brothers” of ZZ Top, released four albums (their 3rd through 6th) on MCA Records: *Airplay* (1979), *The Hard Way* (1980), *American Exce$$* (1981), and *On a Roll* (1982), released as a two-disc compilation. While retaining the gritty Southern rock vibe of their early days, the collection showcases the exhilarating sound from the era when they shifted their focus toward American rock. All of these albums are now difficult to find, making this a valuable collection. Point Blank was a five-piece Southern rock band formed in Texas in 1974, centered around Rusty Burns (guitar) and Kim Davis (guitar). They signed with the management team behind ZZ Top and released two albums on Arista: *Point Blank* in 1976 and *Second Season* in 1977. They later signed with MCA and gradually shifted toward a more mainstream rock and pop sound, releasing *Airplay* in 1979 and *The Hard Way* in 1980. However, they failed to produce any hits. Then, in 1981, *American Exce$$* finally garnered heavy airplay on AOR radio stations and reached No. 20 on the Billboard rock chart. The single “Nicole” from that album also peaked at No. 39, becoming their biggest hit. However, their 1982 album *On a Roll* failed to chart, and the band disbanded the following year in 1983. They later reunited in 2007, releasing the live album *Reloaded*, followed in 2009 by *Fight On!*, their first studio album in 27 years. The band continues to perform today, though none of the original members remain.
