Texas-based trio Khruangbin has completed their third album. Their third album, *Mordechai*—their first in two years—features vocals on nearly every track and marks a bold new direction for the band. Houston-based trio Khruangbin—comprising bassist Laura Lee Ochoa, guitarist Mark Speer, and drummer Donald “DJ” Johnson—is releasing their new album *Mordechai* via Dead Oceans in collaboration with Night Time Stories. This follows their critically acclaimed 2018 album *Con Todo El Mundo*, and earlier this year, the band also released the collaborative EP *Texas Sun* with Leon Bridges. The lead single from the album is “Time (You and I),” and the video for the song was directed by Felix Heyes & Josh R.R. King. Khruangbin has always been multilingual, weaving disparate musical languages—such as East Asian surf rock, Persian funk, and Jamaican dub—into delicate harmonies. However, on their third album, *Mordechai*, vocals are featured on nearly every track. Steering Khruangbin’s ecstatic sound toward a more direct emotional experience—without losing their nomadic, wandering spirit—is a significant shift that carries some risk, but it all began when they returned to Texas from their tour. With their two critically acclaimed albums, *The Universe Smiles Upon You* and *Con Todo El Mundo*, Khruangbin toured North and South America, Europe, and Southeast Asia for nearly three and a half years, continuing through the summer of 2019.
