Poulenc, Ferroux, and Ravel French Violin Sonatas Collection of violin sonatas by Poulenc, Ferroux, and Ravel with Judit Ingolfsson on violin and Vladimir Staupel on piano. This is Poulenc's last violin sonata. It was composed at the request of Ginette Neveu, who died young at the age of 30, and also in memory of the poet Garcia Lorca, who died in the Spanish Civil War. The second movement opens with a quotation from Lorca's poem "The Guitar Tears the Dream. Judit Ingolfsson's lustrous tone and rich but delicate singing make for a truly exquisite performance. Then there is Pierre-Octave Ferroux's Violin Sonata, recorded in its entirety for the first time. FERREUX studied composition under Florent Schmidt, and founded Le Triton, a musical group dedicated to promoting the works of contemporary composers, and has been active in introducing the works of unknown musicians.He and Poulenc were friends, and Poulenc was an influential figure, writing a series of religious pieces in his memory after Ferrule died in a car accident. Ravel's Violin Sonata No. 2 follows. Ravel's sonatas have a unique charm, full of transparency, as he does not stick to the old forms and also incorporates jazz elements. Judit Ingolfsson is a violinist from Iceland. His talent blossomed from an early age, and at the age of 15 he enrolled at the Curtis Institute of Music, where he studied with Jascha Brodsky under Eugène Ysaÿe, followed by a master's degree and artist diploma from the Cleveland Institute of Music. She has performed with pianist Vladimir Staupel on numerous occasions, and since 2006 has been actively exploring unusual repertoire, including the highly acclaimed "Concert Santenaires" series featuring composers who lived during World War I.
