Description:
The second installment of the Le Conseil de la Loge Haydn project led by Chauvin, with the participation of Justin Taylor, a young gem on the fortepiano! This is the second volume of the project to record Haydn's Paris Symphonies (Nos. 82-87) under the direction of the up-and-coming French violinist Julien Chauvin. In accordance with the concert custom of the time, the program consists of various compositions with the symphony as the main work. Haydn's symphony "Mendori" is exceptionally elegant. In Mozart's "Mendori," each passage is extremely detailed and lively. Justin Taylor, the soloist, is a gem, having won the Bruges International Competition for Old Music (2015) at the young age of 23. He studied with Olivier Beaumont and Blandine Lanne, and also studied piano with Roger Mullaro, making him a remarkable performer of both ancient music and modern piano technique. Here, too, we are joined by a wonderful performance from the prelude. Marie-Alexandre Guénan was a representative of Paris during the transition from Classical to Romanticism, and was the second violinist of the Concert de la Loge Oranpique, which was founded in 1783 (Haydn's "Paris Symphony" was written for this group). In 1778, when Mozart's ballets were performed at the Royal Academy of Music without Mozart's name, Haydn's symphonies were increasingly performed, and Guénin's reputation was on the rise, as were those of French composers such as Cambini and Gossec. Symphonies by other French composers such as Cambini and Gosek were also frequently performed. French symphonies were received with as much enthusiasm as Austro-German symphonies, and Guénin, in particular, was one of the top composers in the French group.Le Conseil de la Loge was founded in 2015 by violinist Julien Chauvin. It takes its name from the Concert de la Loge Oranpique, the finest orchestra of its time, founded in 1783. Haydn's "Paris Symphony" was also written for this organization, which was the resident orchestra at the Tuileries Palace under Marie-Antoinette. Almost all of its members are Freemasons, and its name, Loge, comes from the Lodges of Freemasonry. Chauvin has been banned by the Olympic Committee from using the word "Olympic" in the name of the organization, so since 2016 it has continued to operate under the name Le Conseil de la Loge.
