López-Gavilan’s Masterpiece, Fluidly Bridging Classical and Jazz World Premiere Recording of *Emporium* The Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Michael Butterman have captured the music of Cuban pianist and composer Aldo López-Gavilan in a live recording. This album features the world premiere recordings of *Emporium (for Piano and Orchestra)*, the *Clarinet Concerto*, and *Hechizos (Spells)* (for solo piano). The soloists are López-Gavilan on piano and Ricardo Morales on clarinet, and the recording was produced by a team of Grammy Award-winning engineers. López-Gavilan is active in both classical and jazz fields and is highly regarded as a composer with a natural flow and supple expressiveness. His free and energetic musicality is particularly evident in *Emporium*. Morales is known as the principal clarinetist of the Philadelphia Orchestra and is a highly accomplished musician who served as principal clarinetist of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra at a young age. Founded in 1957, the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra is acclaimed for its creative programming and deep ties to the community; its main performances take place at the University of Colorado’s historic Mackey Auditorium. Since his appointment in 2007, Music Director Butterman has led the orchestra to national prominence and has expanded his scope of activity, serving as music director for multiple orchestras.
