A leading figure in the ambient music scene has finally completed a decade-in-the-making collaboration with his late, longtime friend *Johan Johansson & Adam Wiltzy—Friendship Survival Guide* Adam Wiltzy, known as a leading figure in ambient drone music, has completed a decade-in-the-making collaboration with the late Jóhann Jóhannsson, who passed away suddenly in 2018. The album, *FriendshipSurvivalGuide*, will be released by Deutsche Grammophon. The album features emotional and minimalist compositions that fuse orchestral sounds with ambient textures—a deeply moving and immersive work centered on atmosphere, space, and the intricate nuances of tone. Wiltsy, co-founder of the now-legendary drone duo “Stars of the Lid,” and Johansson, an award-winning composer, were close friends whose birthdays were just two days apart. In 2013, they collaborated for the first time on a full-scale composition and recording project—the score for the film *The Theory of Everything*—a period Wiltsy describes as “an incredibly stimulating and creative time for both of us,” adding that it “sparked the idea of making an album together someday.” The two nurtured a deep friendship and creative partnership until Johansson’s sudden passing, composing, performing, and recording together throughout that time. They began work on this album in 2016. The album features works born from their studio sessions between 2013 and 2017, many of which were recorded while they were working on the scores for *The Theory of Everything* and *Arrival*. After Johansson’s passing, it was extremely difficult for his surviving friends to confront this music and continue the production, but with the support and encouragement of Johansson’s family, they were able to bring it to completion. “This is a testament to our friendship… Johan is no longer with us, but the work we created together lives on, and that is truly wonderful.
