Shabazz Palesez is the hip-hop project of Butterfly, a member of the Grammy Award-winning Digable Planets. The project has released two seven-song mini-albums simultaneously, "Loved in Rareness" and "Exotic Birds of Prey," both of which assert futurism by interweaving the past with the present Shabazz Palaces will release a seven-song mini-album, "Exotic Birds of Prey," on Sub Pop Sub Pop. This is a follow-up to their well-received album "Robed in Rareness," which was released digitally in October 2023. NPR Music described "Robed in Rareness" as "captivating and subversive..." and Pitchfork said, "Shabazz Palaces' futurism always interweaves the past with the present. 'Robed in Rareness' is covered in diversity, with Butler and his team of collaborators strutting through the eras of rap."Shabazz Palaces is led by vocalist and producer Ismael Butler, whose tireless drive to reinvent hip-hop has not diminished in the 50 years since he came into this world. Exotic Birds of Prey is a further development of the approach of its predecessor, Robed in Rareness, paying homage to the past, embracing the ever-evolving present, and stepping firmly into the future.
